Fair Share Information Sheet

2008-2009 School Year

What is the Fair Share Program?

The Fair Share Program is a plan in which all families provide equal financial support to the Elizabeth High School Marching Band & Color Guard.

How do you arrive at the Fair Share figure?

The 2008 – 2009 Fair Share figure has not been determined yet. Our budget will be approved shortly and the fair share figure will be made available. Here is our basic formula for arriving at the Fair Share figure, however:

We start with the proposed Budget for 08-09: - (not finalized or approved by Boosters yet)

FROM THE BUDGET FIGURE, WE SUBTRACT MONEY THAT WE KNOW WILL BE COLLECTED FROM TWO SOURCES:
  1. Band Camp Fees: $150 per student. We are using a figure of 60 students as our best estimate of Marching Band participants. (NOTE: band camp this year is Aug. 4th – 8th).

  2. 60 students x $150.00 band camp fee = $9,000.

  3. Money from School Board: $10,000

How can I fulfill my Fair Share obligation?

The 2008-2009 Fair Share obligation may be fulfilled in several ways:
  1. Paying in full by cash or check (made payable to EHS Band). Payment may be made in one lump sum due no later than 11/1/08; or may be paid in 3 installments due by: 9/15/08, 10/15/08 and 11/15/078
  2. Paying partially in cash/check, and earning the balance in Band Bucks through fundraisers.
  3. Earning the full amount in Band Bucks through the fundraising opportunities listed on below.

What are Band Bucks?

Band Bucks are “credits” earned and given to band & color guard families and students to pay their Fair Share obligation by working at various fund raisers throughout the year.

Each fund raiser has a different Band Buck value assigned to it, as outlined below.

Each Band Buck earned is applied directly to the student’s Fair Share obligation. (i.e. 1 band buck = $1 towards your Fair Share amount)

Band Bucks for the upcoming season can be earned during the Marching Band Fundraising Season (May 1, 2008 to April 30, 2009).

Parents are also eligible to earn Band Bucks by chairing current fundraising activities. For the 2008-2009 season, since fundraising activities involve a certain amount of responsibility, time, and commitment, we are offering Band Bucks to parents who are willing to step up to this very important responsibility.

Fundraiser Student Band Bucks Chair
Car Wash (June,July,Aug) 10 per shift 50
Entertainment Books (Sept) 10 per book sold 20
Honeybaked Hams (Nov) 1 per $5 sold 20

NOTE: Up to 100 Band Bucks earned in excess of this year’s Fair Share amount may be “rolled over” to the following year. Excess Band Bucks may also be shifted to the account of a sibling who is currently enrolled in marching band or color guard.

We are always on the lookout for new fundraising ideas, and someone who has the passion to follow through with them – is that you? The Booster organization would love to hear from you! Please see Mr. B. or any board member.

**THE INVESCO FUNDRAISER CAN ALSO BE PICKED BACK UP --- WE NEED A CHAIRPERSON FOR THIS WHO IS WILLING TO MAKE IT AS PROFITABLE AS POSSIBLE.** (THIS IS DIFFERENT THAN THE “INVESCO” OPTIONS UNDER “OBSERVE, INC”

Observ,Inc.

Our newest option for earning Band Bucks is to work for Observ, Inc. at various sporting events/venues throughout the year such as:
Observ, Inc. pays $7.25 per hour (except Invesco, which is a flat $50 per person).

Most shifts are 5-7 hours, so you could earn $36.25 – 50.75 Band Bucks per person per shift.

When working for Observ, Inc. you would be selling fresh squeezed lemonade, kettle corn, Squishy’s (slurpee), and Dippin Dots – no alcohol or beer.

Students aged 16 and older may work.

Wear sneakers and black pants. They will provide you with a shirt and ball cap.

You can go to the company’s website and browse through upcoming events (they are posted a month at a time) and select events of your choosing according to date and time. (Detailed instructions are on the back of this page).

When you’ve picked an event to work at, contact Joyce St. Amand by calling (303) 646-2526 or send an email to saintsrus@myedl.com.

Once you’ve signed up for an event, you must work the shifts you committed to. If you are unable to work, it is your responsibility to find replacements. Notify Joyce of the change.

For Coors Field - parking is available in Parking Lot C for $1. A free shuttle will take you Coors Field. Or, take the light rail to Union Station.

Check in is on the north side of Coors field. The staff are very helpful and will make sure you get to where you need to be.

How to Sign Up for a Shift

  1. Go to the website: www.hulstrom.com/observ/
  2. User Name: Pepsi
    Password: Center
  3. As you scroll down, you will see dates, times, venues and other information. The number listed after “Rockies Game” (37-43 in the example below) is how many workers are needed for that game.
  4. Report time = Stands; so in this example report time would be 3:00 pm.
  5. In the column to the right look for Non-Profit; if you see AVAILABLE, there are open shifts that you may sign up for. In this example, 37-43 people are needed, and only 2 from the Girl Scouts have signed up – so there are 35-41 spaces available!
Remember, you do not have to work this fundraiser. This is just another opportunity to earn Band Bucks.

So if you do sign up for a shift, you must work it or find a replacement yourself!
